What TikTok Shop really is
TikTok Shop is not "advertising on TikTok": it is a complete sales channel inside the app. The product is discovered in a video or a live stream, bought without leaving the platform, and the order lands in your back office. For an existing online store it means a second storefront to run, with its own rules and rhythm.
What you need to open
- Business account and verification: VAT number, company documents, bank account for payouts.
- Catalogue: manual upload for a handful of SKUs, or connector-based sync from Shopify or Magento for real catalogues. Stock sync is the critical point: an oversell during a live stream costs reviews and ranking.
- Logistics and returns: shipping times you declare and respect, a returns policy aligned with platform rules. The seller performance score drives visibility.
- Content: at least 3-5 product videos a week, plus a live schedule.
How selling works: three engines
Shoppable video. Organic content with a tagged product. Zero cost, variable return: it needs volume and fast iteration on the formats that work.
Live shopping. Live streams have the highest conversion rate because they compress demonstration, questions and purchase into a few minutes. It requires a consistent host and regular sessions, not one-offs.
Creator affiliation. You set a commission and creators promote your products on performance. It is the channel that scales best without media budget, but your margin has to absorb the commission plus the platform fee.
Margins: do the maths first
The selling price carries platform commission, possible affiliate commission, logistics cost and the return rate — structurally higher in social commerce because buying is impulsive. If your gross margin is below 45%, curate a dedicated assortment instead of exposing the whole catalogue.
Integrating with the store you already run
The most common mistake is treating TikTok Shop as an island. The three integrations that matter: single stock pool (no channel sells what is not there), orders inside your ERP for invoicing and support, and customer data in the CRM to re-activate one-time buyers. On Magento and Shopify this is built with connectors or middleware: development work, not a checkbox.
Mistakes that burn the first three months
- Uploading 2,000 SKUs and waiting: without content the catalogue is invisible.
- Recycling Instagram videos: native formats perform far better.
- Ignoring service metrics (shipping times, message response): they reduce distribution.
- Not measuring the halo effect: part of the demand generated on TikTok converts on your own site or on Google. In-app ROAS alone understates the channel.
Who it makes sense for right now
Beauty, supplements, home, accessories, food — products you can demonstrate in 30 seconds at an impulse price. For B2B, high ticket or technical assortments, TikTok Shop stays an awareness channel: invest first in site speed and conversion.

The questions clients ask us before we start
5 straight answers — costs, timelines, risks — from real projects.
Is TikTok Shop available in my country?
TikTok Shop is live in most major European markets, including Italy, the UK, Germany, France, Spain and the Netherlands. Registered businesses can open a shop, upload a catalogue and sell with in-app checkout after document verification and adding a bank account for payouts.
How much does it cost to sell on TikTok Shop?
There is no subscription fee: you pay a commission on each sale, plus an optional commission for affiliate creators. Percentages change over time and by category, so check them in Seller Center before setting your prices.
Can I connect TikTok Shop to Magento or Shopify?
Yes. Shopify offers a dedicated sales channel; on Magento you use connectors or middleware that sync products, prices, stock and orders. Real-time availability is the critical part, to avoid selling out-of-stock items during live sessions.
Do I need live shopping to sell?
It is not mandatory, but live streams convert best because they combine demonstration, questions and purchase in one place. The sellers who perform well alternate daily shoppable videos with regular live sessions.
Which products work best?
Visual products that can be demonstrated in seconds with an impulse price point — roughly under €60: beauty, supplements, home, accessories, food. High ticket and technical products need a longer path.
How do I measure the real return of the channel?
Beyond in-app sales, measure the halo effect: direct traffic and branded search on publishing days, plus new customers on your own site. Looking only at in-platform ROAS underestimates the channel.
